Rachel Corrie Art Dedication October 23, 5 p.m. at The Evergreen State College.(Olympia, Wash.)  Former Evergreen student Rachel Corrie’s commitment to peace will be recognized in the dedication of an artwork on the third floor of the College Activities Building on the Olympia campus at 5 p.m. October 23.

The sculpture, by international artist and Evergreen graduate Ross Matteson, is a bronze and polished steel representation of a dove on the tip of a pyramid, entitled “Reflecting on Peace and Justice.”  It is a gift to the College from the Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice, with contributions from faculty, staff, students and alumni.

Corrie was killed by an Israeli military bulldozer while attempting to prevent the demolition of a Palestinian home in Gaza in March 2003.  She is recognized around the world for her writings, courage and ideals.

Evergreen Provost Michael Zimmerman will accept the artwork on behalf of the College in recognition of Corrie’s time as a student at Evergreen, and her dedication to peace.

→We normally have OMJP meetings on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at the POWER office.  Because of this dedication, at our last meeting, we decide to have this Wednesday’s meeting, October 23 at Evergreen on the third floor of the CAB Building.  The meeting will start at the regular time of 6:30, where we will discuss our most recent and future activities.  If you can’t come to the 5PM dedication, please come to the 6:30 meeting and you will still be able to see the sculpture.  If you take a bus to Evergreen, there will be enough of us with cars to get you home after the meeting.  Hope to see you at 5 or 6:30.
